Student Life

Campus life

Think of Rutgers University–New Brunswick, with about 43,000 students, as something like a lively and vibrant city. And just as the best small cities have a fun mix of neighborhoods, each with its own identity, so do the five smaller residential campuses of Rutgers University. At each campus, you’ll find everything you need—student centers, dining options, residence halls, computer labs, classrooms, libraries, student lounges, and lots more.

Sports facilities

Long before varsity athletics provided an outlet for youthful energies, the men of Rutgers, like so many of their counterparts at the other colonial colleges, were privately challenging students from other schools to meet them “on the banks” for a little friendly competition.

In fact, the Rutgers student body is credited with initiating the first intercollegiate contest in football in 1869 and later with starting collegiate ultimate frisbee in 1973. Both of these efforts were student driven and student supported with little, if any, assistance from the University.

The professors were not as approachable as I thought. I didn't get enough from my classes, and there's less freedom of choice.

Large School With A Lot of Experiences
Anonymous rated 3 out of 5 stars

Rutgers is a large school and your experience will vary wildly from department to department. The STEM and business classes have a high student:teacher ratio and TAs that don't speak English. In contrast, the humanities classes are quite small and the professors will be invested in you. It depends what you're studying. The CS curriculum is lacking in electives and there...

Rutgers University has a diverse pool of students from all over the world. There are many clubs and activities that caters to different individuals. I never thought that being an International student at Rutgers would make me feel at home, but the culture, the academias and the people truly makes it home away from home
