South Dakota State University is the state’s largest, most comprehensive higher-education institution. As South Dakota’s Morrill Act land-grant university, SDSU had a fall 2019 enrollment of 11,518, with students coming from 49 states and more than 70 countries. Students can choose from 82 majors, 35 specializations, 94 minors, 36 master’s degree programs, 15 Ph.D. programs and two professional doctorates. The university also offers courses at various off-campus sites as well as undergraduate and graduate programs online through the Office of Continuing and Distance Education.
The Division of Research and Economic Development works closely with university researchers, business leaders and other sponsors to promote faculty expertise aimed at solving real-world problems in society and industry. The university has positioned itself as a leader in agriculture and precision agriculture, remote sensing and life sciences. Succeeding at any university is exhilarating, but can have some difficulties. The Dean of Students is one of many resources to assist students in need. Here are some services provided by the Office of the Dean of Students for SDSU: Serves as the student Ombudsperson for the university; Supervises the Student Conduct Process; Chairs the Clery Report Review Committee.

Enrolling at SDSU is a cultural experience complete with new friends, new modes of instruction and a new environment. Because of all of this change, some students struggle along the way.

The Active Learning environment is enabled by cloud computing. Basically, a "cloud" consists of networked computers that distribute processing power, software applications, and large systems amongst many types of devices (laptops, cell phones, etc.), giving students and faculty access to vast educational resources and information.

Our state-of-the-art Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium, Student Wellness Center and Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic complex are used by not just SDState, but also by the Brookings community. Can you picture yourself here?
The Student Wellness Center has several state-of-the-art fitness machines and equipment, wellness classes and a conveniently located student health clinic.

The Students' Association is comprised of all General Activity Fee-paying students at South Dakota State University. The Students' Association Senate is the official student government organization at SDSU, consisting of 28 senators representing each of the academic colleges and the student body president and vice president.
The Students' Association Senate serves as a representative body to bring the voice of SDSU students to university administration, faculty, and staff, state legislators and the South Dakota Board of Regents of Higher Education. The Students' Association also allocates student fee funds to support various campus entities, facilities, and many student organizations.
