When Dakota Agricultural College was founded in the early 1880s, every farm had a milk cow or two. A farmer could expect about a gallon of milk per day from each cow, and there was usually plenty of milk in the spring but very little during the winter.

The University Archives and Special Collections (A&SC) unit supports the missions of South Dakota State University and the Hilton M. Briggs Library. The A&SC identifies, collects, preserves, and makes accessible materials of cultural importance and historical and administrative value to all researchers regardless of affiliation.
The Active Learning environment is enabled by cloud computing. Basically, a "cloud" consists of networked computers that distribute processing power, software applications, and large systems amongst many types of devices (laptops, cell phones, etc.), giving students and faculty access to vast educational resources and information.

Our state-of-the-art Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium, Student Wellness Center and Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic complex are used by not just SDState, but also by the Brookings community. Can you picture yourself here?
The Student Wellness Center has several state-of-the-art fitness machines and equipment, wellness classes and a conveniently located student health clinic.
The Student Wellness Center is connected to the Stanley J. Marshall Center where an indoor lap pool is located.
The Students' Association is comprised of all General Activity Fee-paying students at South Dakota State University. The Students' Association Senate is the official student government organization at SDSU, consisting of 28 senators representing each of the academic colleges and the student body president and vice president.
The Students' Association Senate serves as a representative body to bring the voice of SDSU students to university administration, faculty, and staff, state legislators and the South Dakota Board of Regents of Higher Education. The Students' Association also allocates student fee funds to support various campus entities, facilities, and many student organizations.
South Dakota State University has been granted the full, ten-year reaccreditation by the Higher Learning Commission. An accreditation team of representatives from peer institutions commended SDSU for:

There are a couple of professors that are keen to be as helpful as possible and some passionate people there as well. They were just starting some new projects when I left that were very exciting for new students. These included the building of a new student farm for projects and learning...
