Tuskegee University is a private, historically black university (HBCU) located in Tuskegee, Alabama, United States. It was established by Booker T. Washington.

The school was founded on July 4, 1881, as the Tuskegee Normal School for Colored Teachers. This was a result of an agreement made during the 1880 elections in Macon County between a former Confederate Colonel, W.F. Foster who was running on the democratic ticket and a local Black Leader and Republican.


Tuskegee University offers 40 bachelor's degree programs, 17 master's degree programs, a 5-year accredited professional degree program in architecture, 4 doctoral degree programs, and the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. The university is home to over 3,100 students from the U.S. and 30 foreign countries. Tuskegee University was ranked among 2015's best 379 colleges and universities by The Princeton Review and 5th among the 2015 U.S. News & World Report best HBCUs.


Welcome to the Office of Research which is headed by the Vice President for Research and Dean of Graduate Studies, who reports to the president of the university through the Provost. The Office is responsible for the development and implementation of aggressive plans  to insure that Tuskegee University’s research capability and annual research funding from federal agencies and other sources are substantially enhanced and making sure that Tuskegee University is in complete compliance with state and federal regulations in implementing research and other sponsored programs.

Housing services

The Mission of Housing and Residence Life is to provide educational living and dining environments that promotes a successful transition for our new students. Additional housing is provided for continuing students in apartments.  We strive to create a safe wholesome living and learning environment that is conducive to the overall development of our students that aids in their academic success, leadership development, positive decision making and responsible citizenship. Services are provided to our students in a friendly, courteous and efficient manner which helps to promote academic success.

Library services

The fundamental purpose of the Tuskegee University Library System is to acquire, organize, and disseminate information, which prepares the student to function responsibly as an individual within society. The Tuskegee University Library System consists of the Ford Motor Company Library/Learning Resource Center, the Architecture Library, the Engineering Library and the Veterinary Medical Library.

ICT services

The Office of Information Technology is the primary information-technology provider on the campus of Tuskegee University. Our mission is to provide and promote information-technology services that support the mission of the University and provide quality customer service to the university community and guests.

Medical services

The Tuskegee University Student Health Services as a unit in the Division of Student Affairs provides Health Care and Education to all enrolled students, in accordance with the institutional mission and philosophy. Student Health Services is committed to provide students with quality primary health care services, and encourage the use of preventive methods through health education and counseling.

The mission of intercollegiate athletics at Tuskegee is to provide athletic programs that contribute in an effective and meaningful manner to the achievement of the broader goals of the University. The Athletic programs should enhance the total educational experience of students, promote the retention and matriculation of students, advance the reputation of Tuskegee, and cultivate loyalty and support of students, alumni and the community at large.

The classes were large, but the professors made up for it with their availability through office hours and phone calls. The school also offered free on-campus tutorial services where you could meet up with other students to learn difficult content.
