Overview

The Food Science, Nutrition and Health Promotion BSc program from Mississippi State University, offers BS degree programs in several fields, including accredited programs in food science, food business/processing, food safety, pre-health, culinology (in conjunction with MS University for Women), and dietetics/nutrition.

Our department also offers various industry and community-based extension programs, to enhance the growth of the food industries and to improve the nutrition, wellness and health of citizens and communities. Examples include HACCP, Food Defense, Food Security, ServSafe, and Marination 101 short courses.

Our department hosts the Center for Food Safety and Post-Harvest Technology, a USDA-ARS sponsored research program. In addition to food safety research, our food science research encompasses the utilization of poultry, meat, aquatic foods, soybean, fruits and vegetables and other food crops produced in the state of Mississippi. Our nutrition and health research and extension programs have various focuses and includes the prevention of obesity and associated chronic diseases, and other health issues.

Mississippi State recommends all school credentials from non-U.S. institutions be submitted through a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services member for a course-by-course evaluation with grade point average calculation.
