Concordia University was founded in 1893 to provide a Christian learning environment for high school students preparing to enter the professional ministries of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The first students were welcomed to class on September 13, 1893, in temporary quarters next to Zion Lutheran Church in St. Paul.
The academic programs are designed to meet the needs of our region by teaching the skills and abilities employers seek, yet within a liberal arts framework that also gives our graduates career versatility. Students apply concepts they learn in class to real-world challenges using tools such as case studies, projects, service- learning, internships, research, study trips and more to develop the practical knowledge that’s demanded in the job market.
The NRC Research Associateship Programs (RAP) promote excellence in scientific and technological research conducted by the U.S. government through the administration of programs offering graduate, postdoctoral, and senior level research opportunities at sponsoring federal laboratories and affiliated institutions.

First-year students live in community-style halls with 2- or 3- person rooms and centrally located bathrooms. Upperclassmen live in apartment-style halls with fully furnished studio, 2- or 4-bedroom suites with private bedrooms. All buildings have secured doors with access using your student ID.
The library provides access to information in multiple formats, traditional and digital. Consistent with the teaching mission of the university, the library promotes the development of an “Information Literate” community by promoting information competency, critical thinking, and life-long learning.
Concordia University, St. Paul, utilizes Blackboard as the online learning environment for a variety of face-to-face, blended delivery, and fully online courses. Some traditional day courses and all School of Continuing Studies and cohort programs use Blackboard to communicate, submit assignments, and display course curriculum.
The overall health can play a crucial role in college success. Stress levels ebb and flow throughout the semester, and often responsibilities as a student and young adult can be overwhelming. Concordia has resources available to support health and wellness during the busy and often challenging years of college.
The 42 acre campus is conveniently located in Minnesota’s capitol city of St. Paul, is less than 10 minutes from either downtown St. Paul, Minneapolis, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and within easy reach of all that the metropolitan area offers.
There over 40 clubs and organizations to choose from. For example Art and Design Club is a student led club open for all Concordia students. Art Club focuses on developing young people to expressing themselves, improving their work, or learning how to create art. Workshops are also done, open to all students to come and learn different techniques and to have fun. Community involvement is a big part of Art Club. It is open to helping out the community as well as the school community getting everyone involved to creating something great.
Concordia University, St. Paul is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. Concordia University, St. Paul has been accredited since 1967, with reaccreditation given in 2008.
