Overview

You’ll specialize in one of four areas of emphasis (Literature, Creative Writing, Journalism or Professional Writing as you take 41 credit hours towards a Bachelor of Arts degree.

In the English with an Emphasis in Creative Writing major from Concordia University, St. Paul, students will gain broad-based knowledge of literature from all periods and from around the world. They will learn to write clearly and persuasively, think independently, create original ideas, present alternative viewpoints and solve problems.

Concordia University students develop these skills by working closely with knowledgeable faculty dedicated to relationship-based education through discussion, debate, course presentations, one-on-one consultations with professors and supervised writing projects.

Students have many opportunities to apply the skills learned in the classroom to practical hands-on situations, such as writing for The Sword student newspaper, tutoring students in the Writing Center, student teaching or gaining internship experience at a local business. Creative Writing is one of the three areas of emphasis available to students.
