Students are placed in a variety of settings, including medical centers, long-term care facilities, school nutrition programs, health departments, wellness centers and many other locations.

Graduates of the Coordinated Program in Nutrition - Dietetics from The University of Akron will be prepared as entry-level Registered Dietitians for future practice in the field of nutrition and dietetics with attitudes, understandings, and skills that will allow them to analyze critically and meet the diverse needs of individuals and/or society. The program provides graduates with the knowledge and tools to develop skills necessary to develop into leaders in the field and to translate and apply the science of food and nutrition to health.

This Nutrition - Dietetics degree program addresses strong national demand for expertise in food and nutrition, employment needs of food manufacturers and related businesses, and the growing interest in sustainability and locally grown food resources. Students learn such vital skills as understanding the science of food production, developing and analyzing recipes, creating product information labels, and marketing recipes and food products using cutting edge information and technologies.

Careers

Career opportunities for Registered Dietitians are excellent. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor, employment of dietitians is expected to grow because of increased emphasis on disease prevention, a growing and aging population, and public interest in nutrition.
