About

History

Wofford College, established in 1854, is an independent liberal arts college located in Spartanburg, S.C. It was founded with a bequest of $100,000 from the Rev. Benjamin Wofford (1780–1850), a Methodist minister and Spartanburg native. 

Education

It offers bachelor’s degrees in 26 major fields of study, and is well known for its programs leading to graduate and professional studies (medicine and other health professions, law, commerce, and advanced graduate study across academic disciplines).

The Office of Residence Life at Wofford College is committed to providing students with a safe and secure environment that fosters student development, facilitates community mindedness, supports academic success, and celebrates diversity.

Housing services

Welcome to Wofford! Wofford has 8 residence halls scattered about its historic and picturesque 150+ acre campus. 93% of Wofford students live in the on campus residence halls all 4 years of their college experience. Each residence hall houses students in a co-educational setting that helps to build the close knit community that Wofford is known for.

Library services

There are more than 250,000 items in the collection, including books, journals, films, historical documents, rare books, etc. The library's online resources are available both on and off-campus 24 hours per day and include more than 200 databases, over 350,000 electronic books and 60,000 electronic journals. The library’s web page provides access to the full range of services.

Medical services

Believing that it is only when students feel healthy physically, mentally and emotionally that they can get the very most out of their college experiences, Wofford’s Wellness Center strives to provide an atmosphere where students feel welcome and valued when they walk in the front door. 

Student Life

Campus life

Wofford is located a few blocks north of the central business district of Spartanburg, S.C., an international commercial center. The college has operated continuously on its original campus, which was designated a National Historic District in 1974. In November 2002, the entire 170-acre campus was designated as the Roger Milliken Arboretum. Nearly 5,000 trees have been planted since 1992. 

Sports facilities

Wofford College provides a wide spectrum of sport activities for its students:

  • NCAA Division I- Recent Southern Conference championships in football, baseball, men's basketball and men’s soccer
  • Men’s Sports: 242 participants in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, riflery, soccer, tennis, indoor and outdoor track.
  • Women’s Sports: 127 participants in basketball, cross country, golf, riflery, soccer, tennis, indoor and outdoor track, volleyball.
  • Club Sports: Lacrosse, Ultimate Frisbee
  • Wofford Spirit Squads: Cheerleading, Dance Team 

Student clubs

No matter if you prefer to listen to live music, shag and eat oysters, watch a hit film on the lawn or attend a fraternity event, Wofford has a vibrant social scene. From Greek Life to Wofford Live programming to W.A.C. sponsored events there is something for everyone here at Wofford.

Accreditation

Wofford is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission of Colleges (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia. 30033-4097) to offer the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science. Wofford was one of nine colleges that met in 1895 to organize SACS
