About the programme

Students majoring in Chinese at Wofford College, are required to complete a semester of study abroad in a country where the Chinese language is spoken, taking a majority of courses in Chinese, and in a program approved by the language major adviser. In rare instances, exceptions to this policy may be granted, at the sole discretion of the faculty of the program, through a waiver process administered by the Program Coordinator and in consultation with the department chair.

Students have the option of completing two tracks, either the cultures (non-language) track or the language and cultures track. Subject to the approval of the Asian studies coordinator, coursework relevant to Asian Studies taken at an approved study abroad program in South, Southeast, East or Himalayan Asia may be substituted for coursework taken at Wofford College.

Additionally, as part of the language and cultures track and with the approval of the coordinator, students may substitute coursework in an Asian language other than Chinese taken with an approved Study Abroad program.

General requirements

Complete the Common Application, including the Wofford College member page (Questions Section). The application fee for international applicants is automatically waived because of additional external costs associated with applying to college internationally.

Submit the School Report form and your high school transcript(s).

Submit your official test scores.

The SAT or ACT is a requirement for native English speakers. SAT or ACT scores are expected from all international applicants unless students are unable to reach a testing center.

Submit completed Financial Certification for International Students.

While all students who score below the TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test minimum must complete a third-party interview, we are happy to accept and review recorded or scored interviews from all non-native English speakers.
