About

History

Founded as Natchez Seminary in 1877 by the American Baptist Home mission Society, the school was established as Natchez, Mississippi “for the moral, religious and intellectual improvement of Christian leaders of the colored people of Mississippi and the neighboring states.”.In March 1899, the curriculum was expanded and the name was changed to Jackson College.

Research

The Division of Research and Federal Relations at Jackson State University is the conduit for the university’s interactions with the local community, state, nation, and the world in the area of sponsored programs. The achievements of the university’s faculty, staff and students, along with the expertise of the university’s scholars are shared with the broader community. The Division creates, promotes and supports a research environment by helping faculty, staff and students identify opportunities and secure externally funded grants, contracts and cooperative agreements.

Career

The mission of the Career Services Center is to provide career services in a supportive and proactive manner for Jackson State University students and alumni; including information and counseling on career choices, graduate and professional school, co-op and internships and part-time and permanent employment opportunities. The Center also provides effective and efficient services to employers through recruitment programs and activities.

Housing services

Living on campus can be an exciting and rewarding experience. Our Housing and Residence Life Program offers a variety of programs to meet students’ needs. We encourage you to participate in the Residence Hall Association and become involved in all of the activities offered by Housing and Residence Life.
As a citizen of our residential community, you have the convenience of living close to classes, the library, laundry facilities, tutors, computer labs, and the student health center. Living on campus also offers a helpful and supportive staff, a secure environment, academic support, leadership development, and employment opportunities.

ICT services

The IT Request Center allows end users access to enter online service requests and to check the progress of their existing service requests anytime.The IT Request system also contain a self-service feature that allows JSU users to look up solutions in its knowledge base.

Medical services

The Health Center at Jackson State University provides students readily available access to a variety of outpatient medical services for acute illnesses and injuries. Campus wide health promotion is also a major focus of the Health Center.
