Goals of the B.A. Program in Political Science from Jackson State University:

  • To develop in students a substantive body of knowledge about the history and evolution of the discipline including its various approaches and methods.
  • To nurture in students specialized and thorough knowledge in American Politics, Area Studies, International Affairs or Legal Studies.
  • To help students acquire the capacity to gather and analyze primary and secondary political data, to critique extant studies, to construct creative research proposals and to craft original research.
  • To encourage students to participate in service learning activities–local, national and international–that permit access to early job placements and an appreciation for the practice of citizenship.

Students may choose among curricula related to those concentrations or they can choose the basic curriculum for maximum flexibility.

    The TOEFL®PBT is administered in a paper format and measures your ability to use and understand English in a classroom setting at the college or university level. It accurately measures how well you can listen, read and write in English while performing academic tasks.

General Requirements

  • Application: A completed application
  • Transcripts: Prospective students should request that their high school send a transcript.  A six or seven semester transcript can be submitted for early review and a final official transcript submitted upon graduation which lists all high school course work, the date of graduation, grade point average, and class rank.
  • Test Scores:  Request that an official ACT or SAT score(s) is sent to Jackson State University.
  • Immunization Record: All students born after December 31, 1956 must submit proof of immunization compliance for measles, mumps, and rubella.
