Registered dietitian nutritionists, or RDNs, translate the science of food and nutrition to enhance the well-being of individuals and groups. K-State offers two professional programmes in dietetics, a didactic programme and a coordinated programme.

In 2024, the degree requirement for eligibility to take the registration exam for Registered Dietitian Nutritionists, RDN, will be elevated to a graduate degree. The Food, Nutrition, Dietetics and Health department offers several options to fulfill this graduate degree requirement.

What classes will I take in the Dietetics programme from Kansas State University?

The didactic option may be completed on campus or online. In fact, K-State is the leading distance dietetic programme in the nation. Graduates in this option are qualified to apply for the required postbaccalaureate internship before taking the national Registration Examination for Dietitian Nutritionist.

The coordinated programme combines a Bachelor of Science in dietetics with 1,200 hours of supervised practice experience in food service management, community nutrition and clinical nutrition. Graduates are immediately eligible to take the national Registration Examination for Dietitians.

Registered dietitian nutritionists can work in a variety of settings including medical centers, K-12 schools, health departments, correctional facilities and retail grocery stores.
