Overview
Communication is the heart of every business. Whether working for news organization or in another industry, communication is key. We’re constantly communicating with readers, employees, the community, shareholders or whatever audience may be engaged with the product we produce. We train professionals to tell those stories and make the connections that drive industry forward, all with the Journalism - Journalism and Mass Communications specialization.
Whether in the classroom or utilizing equipment, you will be able to take full advantage of your talent as you hone your skills. You will be able to utilize state-of-the-art equipment and facilities is a requirement in today’s tech-savvy society. Our facilities include computer labs, audio facilities and soundstages.
Journalism students at Southern Illinois University have unique access to the River Radio Evening Edition newsroom, WSIU Radio Newsroom, and the Daily Egyptian newsroom. Journalism students access to New Media Center, and have four of their own 20-station computer labs.

General requirements
- A completed application for admission.
- A $40 non-refundable application fee.
- Current, official transcripts from each high school and college you’ve attended. All transcripts must be issued within the last 30 days and be contained in official sealed envelopes or sent through an electronic transcript system. A final high school transcript will be required upon graduation and completion of all high school course work.
- International students must submit proof of assured financial resources sufficient to pay for their entire first year of tuition, fees, and living expenses.
