About

History

The University of Surrey was established on 9 September 1966 with the grant of its Royal Charter, but its roots go back to a late 19th-century concern to provide greater access to further and higher education for the poorer inhabitants of London. By the beginning of the 1960s, the College had outgrown its main building in Battersea Park Road and in 1962 it was decided to move the institution to Guildford.

Education

Surrey prides itself on excellence in both research and teaching, and was recognised as an ‘outstanding’ institution when it received a prestigious Gold award in the first ever Teaching Excellence Framework. There are three faculties within the University: the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, and the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.

Research

Their research seeks to answer global challenges, drive innovation and deliver real-world impact. They have over 1,000 postgraduate researchers at the University of Surrey working on varied research projects from over 170 research areas, alongside nearly 450 supervisors. The Doctoral College supports the academic and professional development of postgraduate researchers and early career researchers.

Career

Personal and professional development is embedded at the heart of students' learning experience. In the QS World Employability Rankings 2019, Surrey was ranked 1st in the UK and 7th in the world for work placements and research partnerships with employers. The University has an outstanding record for graduate employability, with 97 per cent of our postgraduates in employment (or further study) within 15 months of graduating (Graduate Outcomes Survey 2020). There is a host of careers support available, including Surrey Pathfinder, a digital hub providing 24-hour access to careers appointments and event bookings, jobs, placements and interactive development tools.

Honest and brief review of psychology at Uni of Surrey
Anonymous rated 5 out of 5 stars

I personally enjoyed studying at the University of Surrey because of the independence the university gives its students in terms of attendance, but give as much help as we need when asked. In terms of the modules on my course, I wish we had more frequent assessments that counted for a less weighted percentage so that we had multiple opportunities to study throughout the...

Surrey Uni from someone who did engineering
Anonymous rated 4 out of 5 stars

Overall, a good uni. They are dropping in the league tables a bit but the quality of teaching is still decent. They have really good study abroad options, even for subjects like engineering. The campus itself could look a bit nicer, as some of the buildings aren't very nice but it does have a nice lake.
