Overview
Providing the ideal preparation for a career in finance, The BSc Financial Mathematics programme offered by the University of Surrey offers a broad range of modules across mathematics, statistics, economics and finance.
Career opportunities
- 96 per cent of the Financial Mathematics (Hons) undergraduate students go on to employment or further study (Graduate Outcomes 2024, HESA). Not only are mathematics and statistics central to science, technology and finance-related fields, but the logical insight, analytical skills and intellectual discipline gained from a mathematical education are highly sought after in areas such as law, business and management. Many start their careers with some of the most sought-after employers in the UK or further afield. You’ll study topics such as analysis of shares, equities, cash flows and interest rates, and the principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics, while gaining a strong foundation across the fundamentals of mathematics. In Year 1, you will also develop mathematical programming skills using Python, which will be further developed in Year 2, and gain experience with R programming. Recent graduates have entered employment in roles such as:
- Actuarial Analyst, Capital Life and Pensions
- Actuarial Analyst, KPMG
- Actuarial Trainee, Ageas Insurance Ltd
- Credit Risk Analyst, Lloyds Banking Group
- Financial Analyst, Cummins Inc
- Junior Management Accountant, Virgin Media.
