Overview

Although the Law and Society (with Concentration in Criminal Justice) program from Frostburg State University is not offered as a minor, it is a degree that is often taken as a double major combined with political science, sociology or another compatible area of study.

Choose from two concentrations: criminal justice, which is focused on law enforcement, or legal studies, which prepares students for law school or work in the court system.

Highlights

Enter the exciting career field of law enforcement. Many of our criminal justice graduates hold positions with the state and local police departments, the ATF, corrections, juvenile justice and the secret service.
Gain an understanding of the workings of the United States criminal justice system, including its agencies, personnel and diverse responsibilities.
Acquire excellent written and oral skills, an understanding of ethics and ethical behavior, civil rights and liberties and theories of punishment and corrections.
Complete an internship with such organizations as the state police, C3I (Maryland’s CSI equivalent) or federal law enforcement, if desired.

Join our campus chapter of the national Law Enforcement Explorers for discussions about police tactics, appropriate responses during a vehicle stop or domestic situation and other law enforcement concerns.

Law enforcement officers

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, job openings for law enforcement officers are expected to grow by 5 percent through 2022.
