Overview
Land, water and air pollution, deforestation and habitat destruction, and atmospheric emissions that are impacting global climate are some of the major challenges that human kind is facing. To help mitigate the impact of these changes, we need well educated people that can define the scope of these problems and work towards developing innovative technologies that can answer these environmental challenges. The Environmental Chemistry program at WOU prepares students with the fundamental skillsets and core knowledge to be part of the solution. Core coursework in this program is interdisciplinary and draws on the fields of chemistry, biology, earth sciences, computer science and mathematics. Topics covered include an in depth analysis of environmental and ecosystem dynamics, current energy and resource utilization, and the development of green chemistry and other important technological advances.
