Overview
Whether pursuing the Global Studies major or the minor at the California State University San Marcos, students can choose from an approved list of courses from Anthropology, Communication, Economics, History, Liberal Studies, Literature and Writing, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, Modern Language Studies, Visual and Performing Arts, and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. The program allows students to specialize in one of five geographic regions: the Americas, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, or Sub-Saharan Africa, and in two of five global issue areas: Foreign Policy, Global Conflict and Cooperation, International Law and Human Rights, Global Political Economy and Development, and Gender in Global Perspective.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
Students who graduate with a B.A. in Global Studies will be able to:
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the political, economic and cultural aspects of globalization and its impacts.
- Evaluate and communicate the complexity of global issues from a variety of disciplinary perspectives.
- Demonstrate undergraduate-level mastery of a specialized geographic area of global studies.
- Evaluate and communicate the ways in which local issues and circumstances are involved with and influence global issues (and vice-versa).
Career Opportunities
The Global Studies Degree will be useful to students pursuing careers in international development, international organizations (e.g., United Nations), law, non-governmental organizations focusing on international affairs (e.g., Amnesty International), government, graduate study in History, Political Science, and International Affairs, and education.Programme Structure
