Overview

Public relations is an arena of strategic communication that focuses on the free placement of messages in the media through media releases, editorial content, and promotion. Both a major and a minor are offered in Public Relations at University of Miami.

Classroom requirements reflect the importance of research, computers, and the relationship of all media (electronic, print, online and related digital multimedia technology) to public relations in both the public and private sectors.

Students create and execute PR campaigns in a senior-level campaigns class. Demand for PR interns is high, and the internship and practicum programs for up to four semesters provide students ample opportunity to work within a professional environment after being admitted to the major.

Mission

The Public Relations Program mission is to prepare professional communicators who understand and can demonstrate the use of theory, research, planning and evaluation in effective public relations practice. We are committed to building students’ ability to apply ethical principles to decision-making and to perceive each communication and its intended audience holistically, based on understanding and appreciating cultural and other differences.

Complete and submit the Common Application. Upon submitting, you will be asked to pay a $70 nonrefundable application fee.

If you have attended a secondary school outside of the United States, you must submit your official secondary school documents (transcripts, mark sheets, certificates, examination results, etc.)

We require you to submit two letters of recommendation: one from a high school guidance counselor and one from a teacher.

The University of Miami is need-aware for first-year international undergraduate applicants. This means that, for a portion of international applicants, the Admission Committee will consider that student’s ability to pay tuition without the need for financial aid.
