Its distinctive features and character owe much to its unique history and heritage. Maynooth University was formally established as an autonomous university as recently as 1997, yet traces its origins to the foundation of the Royal College of St. Patrick in 1795, making it, simultaneously, Ireland’s youngest university and one of its oldest educational institutions.

We have, therefore, fundamentally re-imagined our undergraduate learning experience. Building on our strengths, we have developed a radically different Maynooth model of undergraduate education which is distinctive and challenging—one that is flexibly designed to meet the individual needs of a diverse student body and one that stimulates and supports every student to reach their full potential.

Research at Maynooth University spans the disciplines from the Sciences, the Social Sciences and the Arts. Our scale allows us to work across traditional boundaries to focus on the major societal challenges of the 21st century. We have identified six thematic priorities.

From computer programmers to teachers, scientists to journalists, graduates from Maynooth University go on to a wide variety of careers.

Growth in Failure

My overall study experience I would say was tremendously positive. Not in the most conventional way though, I struggled. I moved here and had no one - due to the housing crisis finding a home was a nightmare at times. My studies suffered well into the fall semester. However, all was not lost. The support at the University was outstanding and due to my previous mental...

Maynooth University - Will be missed greatly!
Anonymous rated 4 out of 5 stars

I really enjoyed my experience in Maynooth University. It was a welcoming environment and the student resources were quite good. The lecturers made time to meet with students if they needed extra assistance with understanding lecture material. Recently there has been an increase in the number of students taken in and to combat this some social spaces/ study zones have been...

Reasons to Study Biotechnology at Maynooth University

I found the lecturers were very helpful and were willing to meet outside of lecture hours to explain lecture content that I did not understand. There was an internship in a biotech/pharma company in my final year which was helpful to explore my possible career options. Extra lectures were held to explain some possible post-graduate options available at Maynooth University....
