The University of Cumbria was formed in 2007 by the merger of St Martin’s College, Cumbria Institute of the Arts and University of Central Lancashire’s Cumbria sites, operating from campuses spread across Cumbria and North Lancashire. We may be a relatively new university, but we are steeped in history dating right the way back to 1882.
Our Research Centres
We have a range of support on offer through the Careers and Employability Service, including one to one support, targeted workshops in lectures, work related events or the Career Ahead Award and business engagement and entrepreneurial activity.
The Global Student Satisfaction Awards empower students across the globe to determine the best universities of 2019. By rating institutions on a scale from 1 to 5, on multiple studies-related questions, we found the top educators in the world.

The main library is located on the top floor of the Skiddaw building at Fusehill. Its holdings focus on health, education and the social sciences and include a law library and a large teaching practice collection.
It’s normal for people these days to have a laptop, smartphone, tablet or other personal computing device, and so it’s natural that students would want to use these on campus. To support this need, we provide wireless coverage for more than 70% of the estate and have recently installed higher capacity wireless to allow greater connectivity in high demand areas.
Counselling and Therapy
Counselling and therapy can give you time to explore what is going on in your life in a safe setting. You will be listened to, respected and not judged.
Our Psychological Wellbeing Service incorporates Counselling, Therapy and Mental Health mentoring, and students at the University of Cumbria access this specialist level of support.
Our Lancaster campus is set in beautiful parkland just a short walk from the city centre, so you can enjoy the best of both worlds.
On-site facilities include a sports complex with floodlit artificial turf pitch, Martineau's cafe, Snack Zone and The View restaurant, a chapel, well-stocked library, halls of residence and students' union.
At UoC Active the health of our students is very important to us. We have two outstanding sports complexes at Carlisle and Lancaster. We have also partnered with Salt Ayre Sports Centre and Better Leisure to bring you unrivaled access to facilities across Lancaster, Carlisle and West Cumbria through our UoC Sport Card packages.
