In supporting some of the most marginalised and discriminated against, individuals in society, the Learning Disabilities Nursing course from the University of Cumbria aims to redress the power balance, enabling people to take control over their lives.
If you have already completed a FdSc Nursing Associate programme, you will be able to enter directly into the second year of this degree, enabling you to qualify as a learning disability nurse in just two years.This programme will provide you with clinical experience in a rewarding, challenging and caring role and equip you with the skills you need to become a specialised registered nurse. Taught over both Carlisle Fusehill and the Lancaster Campus, you will work within the NMC professional values and gain skills in prioritising people, practising effectively and promoting professionalism. Studying with the University of Cumbria will give you the insight and skills to demonstrate critical thinking in relation to health facilitation, complex healthcare issues and the promotion of health and wellbeing of people with a learning disability.Programme Structure

- GCSEs: GCSE English Language and Maths at C/4 or above
- A-levels: BCC-BBC
- T-levels: P (C+ in the Core) – M P (C+) – M. All subjects accepted, however we recommend T level Healthcare Science or Health for entry to this course
- Access to HE: 15 Credits at Distinction & 30 at Merit
- CACHE Technical Level 3 and Level 3 Extended Diploma: C - B
- OCR Cambridge Technical & Edexcel/Pearson BTEC Level 3 (National) Extended Diploma: MMM – DDM
- Scottish Highers: BBBC-BBBB
- Irish LC Highers: B1, B2x3 – B2x2, A2x2
- Other experience: NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care (Pre 2014 with 2 years health care setting work experience, post 2014 alongside another Level 3 qualification) Experience in health/social care related settings such as a hospital or primary care health centre to application are preferred
