About

History

Founded in 1855, Kean University was the first public post-secondary institution in New Jersey. With a rich history of excellence and innovation in higher education, Kean is a world-class, vibrant and diverse university offering more than 50 undergraduate majors and more than 60 options for graduate study, including six doctoral programs in a variety of disciplines.

Research

Our well-established core curriculum provides a high-quality, hands-on, laboratory intensive and active learning experience for students in mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology.  At NJCSTM our core curriculum is complemented by numerous opportunities for students to participate in authentic research with NJCSTM faculty, peers, faculty collaborators at other universities and industry scientists.

Services

Housing services

  • The new freshman residence hall has traditional-style suites designed with two double bedrooms that are connected by a common area and share a private bathroom with a shower.
  • Each bedroom comes furnished with beds, wardrobes, desks, desk chairs and a small refrigerator.
  • The community features a large lounge on the first floor, a game room, multipurpose rooms and a laundromat-style laundry room with coinless washers and dryers.
  • Each residential floor has 15 suites, two resident assistants and a floor lounge.
  • The suites are equipped with an individually controlled air conditioning and heating system. The amenities in each suite include cable, telephone and internet.

Library services

The Nancy Thompson Library of Kean University is a comprehensive information and learning center that offers specialized collections and services designed to meet the academic information needs of the Kean University community. Located in the heart of the Kean campus, the Nancy Thompson Library houses the Library’s print, media, and online collections, with holdings of more than 275,000 volumes.

Medical services

Kean University Health Services is dedicated to ensuring the health of all students of Kean University whether on the Union campus or the Kean Ocean campus. If you cannot make it into our Union campus office, feel free to call or email us with any questions or concerns.

Campus life

The beautiful, newly constructed, Freshman Residence Hall accommodates approximately 420 freshman students in fully furnished, four-person, suites.  Designed in the traditional-style, each suite is comprised of two double bedrooms connected by a large common area and private bathroom.  With brand-new furnishings, striking views, and amenities such as cable TV, telephone, Internet, and individually controlled air conditioning/heating systems, each suite is guaranteed to be a modern, convenient, and comfortable place for students to feel at home!  

Sports facilities

We believe an active and engaged campus is essential for our students. Join a fraternity or sorority. Volunteer in the community. Go to the theatre. Watch our Cougars compete. Shoot some pool. Take the train into New York City. Enjoy.

Student clubs

The Center for Leadership and Service recognizes all student groups (Greek organizations, honor societies, student governments, student clubs and organizations) each semester.  There are more than 160 student groups at Kean University.
