About

History

In 1927, Little Rock Junior College opened to provide college-level courses to central Arkansas citizens who wanted and needed access to higher education. In its first year, “Jaycee” – as students would soon refer to the new college – met at Little Rock Senior High School and enrolled approximately 100 students paying five dollars per semester hour for the college’s two-year liberal arts program.

Coursework blends critical thinking with real-world experience, providing a springboard for internships and later careers in such in-demand fields as nursing, engineering, data quality, criminal justice, and education.

Research

UA Little Rock is a leader in the preservation and dissemination of Arkansas history through the alignment of the Department of History, the Master of Arts in public history program, and the Center for Arkansas History and Culture. Collections 88,000 archival papers, images, and books, including those of five Arkansas governors, provide a wealth of research opportunities.

Student services

The mission of the Office of International Student Services (OISS) is to actively promote international and intercultural understanding and to cultivate a mutual commitment and support for international education throughout the campus community.

Housing services

University of Arkansas at Little Rock is Arkansas metropolitan university. Embedded in its philosophy is providing access to a diverse student population. The Division of Student Affairs continues to provide quality support and academic services to University of Arkansas at Little Rocks constituencies, and maintains relationships with academic departments, students, and community groups. We continue to find innovative ways to improve student services.

Library services

Ottenheimer Library collects, organizes, and provides access to information resources and library services that enrich and support the University’s research and teaching mission, foster intellectual development, and promote academic excellence.

ICT services

With over a billion users around the world, its hard to find someone in the business world who isnt familiar with Microsoft Office. While the standard Office desktop software is nothing new, Microsoft has recently come out with Office 365, an online version of its Office applications that make file sharing and collaboration a breeze.

Medical services

Health Services include evaluation and treatment of illnesses; physical examinations; sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening and treatment; confidential HIV testing; womens health including birth control; allergy injections; immunizations; international travel consultations; laboratory testing; referrals to off-site specialists; nutrition counseling and wellness programming.

Campus life

Our campus is where our more than 12,000 students gather to learn, study, play, and interact. Stretching over 250 tree-covered acres in Little Rock’s midtown area, the main campus is home to more than 50 buildings, including many with LEED designations for their energy efficiency.Other features at UA Little Rock include:

  • Central Arkansas’s only Olympic-sized swimming pool
  • Coleman Sports Recreation complex

Sports facilities

  • Fitness & Wellness Classes Offers approximately thirty (30) group exercise classes, personal programming, personal training, incentive programs, personal assessments, and CPR/First Aid classes during the academic year.
  • Intramural Sports Offers approximately fifteen (15) individual and/or team sports during the academic year.
  • Outdoor Adventures Offers students the opportunity to experience the outdoors through the rental of camping equipment.
  • Special Events Offers opportunities for leisure, education, socialization, fitness, and fun through a variety of alternative events. The programs purpose is to provide off-campus connections with other universities participants through competitive and recreational events
