The mission of the Applied Communication Department at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is to foster the co-construction of better social worlds through positive communication.

Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Applied Communication at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock equips students with skills that may be used in their personal lives as well as across a number of professions, including business, education, government, and industry.

The 120-hour program teaches students how to use a positive communication framework to ethically lead and make a difference in interpersonal, organizational, and public contexts by analyzing messages, developing messages, anticipating communication barriers, collaborating with others to accomplish communicative goals, embracing difference, and influencing discourse. These learning outcomes and goals are described below.

Classes are offered in a variety of formats:

  • Online, 16-week courses
  • Accelerated online, 8-week courses
  • Traditional on campus, 16-week courses
  • Hybrid (mixed attendance online and on campus), 16-week courses
  • Accelerated hybrid (mixed attendance between online and on campus), 8-week courses

General requirements

  • Application for admission and pay the $40 application fee. There’s no application fee for military students – request your waiver here.
  • Immunization records or Titer Test showing Immunity (for students born after 1956) can be sent via mail, emailed to admissions@ualr.edu, or faxed to 501-569-8956.
  • Official high school transcript Ask your counselor to send a current high school transcript. After you graduate, we will need a final high school transcript with your graduation posted.
  • Official college entrance exam scores Ask your counselor to send your scores along with your current high school transcript or request your scores through the exam provider.
  • Official college transcripts (If you have taken college classes while in high school) from all post-secondary schools you’ve attended.
