The original school, Brigham Young Academy, was established Oct. 16, 1875, on a little over one acre of land in what is now downtown Provo. In 1903, the name was officially changed to Brigham Young University. The university's academic development was signified by the inauguration of the school's first doctoral program in 1957.

I enjoyed my Philosophy degree for many reasons, one of which is that the faculty loved to challenge my assumptions and arguments so that I could see new perspectives. One thing that I wish had been different is the frequency with which certain courses were taught at BYU; some of the most interesting courses were only taught every few years, so I never got the chance to...
My overall experience at BYU was great. I had great faculty and professors who cared about my success and I really enjoyed my lab experience. There were many opportunities for experiential learning and studying abroad.
