Overview

Atmospheric Science at University of Massachusetts Lowell focuses on meteorology, but also includes components dealing with atmospheric physics and chemistry, solar-terrestrial and ocean-atmosphere interactions, air pollution and air pollution control, and global climate change due to man-made emissions.

The program educates students about the fundamental principles and techniques of physics and mathematics that are necessary for understanding atmospheric behavior and for solving practical problems concerning weather, climate and air pollution.

Learning outcomes

Meteorologists and atmospheric scientists are employed by the agencies of the federal government, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the National Weather Service and the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as by state and local governments, commercial aviation companies and private consulting firms.

A significant number of concentration graduates continue their education in graduate school. These students are advised to develop competencies in science, mathematics and computer science beyond the required science and mathematics core.

You are considered a first-year student if you have not taken any post-secondary/college coursework. Your application should include your high school or secondary school records, including results from culminating or leaving examinations.

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions only accepts official high school records, leaving certificates, and or graduation examination results or their notarized copies. All documents in foreign languages must be professionally translated and notarized. We only accept official transcripts sent directly from the school or a Ministry of Education.
