Overview

Students in the Kinesiology degree program offered by University of Nevada, Las Vegas , will study foundational sciences, such as anatomical kinesiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor behavior, and the psychology of exercise and sport. Developing the skills, knowledge, and research experience related to Kinesiological Sciences will prepare students to further their training in a variety of performance/sport and health professions. This could include athletic training, human movement and performance specialty/practice, medicine, occupational therapy, personal training, physical activity programming, and physical therapy.

Learning Objectives

Recognize career options in Kinesiology, and post-baccalaureate program requirements.

Demonstrate knowledge of functional anatomy and biomechanics.

Explain the biological foundations of motor behavior and biomechanics principles that underlie human motor performance.

Specify and differentiate the physiological responses and systemic adaptations to exercise training, including moderate to vigorous physical activity and muscle-strengthening activity.

Demonstrate knowledge of the physical activity guidelines, including the benefits of physical activity for fitness and the prevention and management of chronic diseases.

Examine current concepts in nutrition in relation to health and disease, and apply guidelines for designing a healthy diet.

Explain how psychological, social, and cultural factors influence motivation and participation in sport and exercise.

Analyze and evaluate research data concerning health or human performance.

Demonstrate the ability to recognize emergencies and apply knowledge of emergency action planning, procedures, and first-aid techniques needed in real-world situations, emphasizing sport and physical activity.
