Overview

The curriculum of Mechanical Engineering programme at The University of Texas at Arlington covers the broad areas of aerodynamics and fluid mechanics, propulsion and combustion, flight mechanics and controls, structural mechanics and material behavior, structural dynamics, and system design and optimization supplemented by appropriate laboratory experiences.

The culmination of the curriculum is a vehicle design project. Students may broaden their education by choosing elective courses in a secondary field of interest or by taking a second bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

Upon completion of the degree, students will be able to:

Identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics

Apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.

Communicate effectively with a range of audiences.

Recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.

Function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.

Develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.

Acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.

For admission to the aerospace engineering and mechanical engineering programs, students must meet the requirements for admission to the College of Engineering. For unconditional transfer into the department, a student must have a minimum grade point average of 2.50 in all science, mathematics and engineering courses, a minimum 3-GPA calculation of 2.50 in UTA coursework, and a total of no more than four unsuccessful attempts in engineering courses.
