The Italian section of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures offers an undergraduate major and minor, a PhD program, and opportunities for students to be involved in research and study abroad.

Key Features

Undergraduate courses give students the opportunity to study Italian language from the elementary level through advanced composition and grammar, as well as literature, film, and cultural studies.

Students who have taken Italian before college and plan to continue at Johns Hopkins University must take the departmental placement exam before registering for an Italian class. This exam is available online year-round; for the most accurate placement recommendation, take it just before the semester you actually plan to study the language.
