Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies programme from New York University includes three related approaches: study of the history of religion; examination of primary texts and artifacts; and interdisciplinary analysis of the ideas and activities that have contributed to the development of various religions.

It should be stressed that the department is oriented toward the academic analysis of religious phenomena and is not intended to promote or endorse either religious belief itself or the views and practices of any particular religious tradition.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of programme requirements, students are expected to have acquired:

An introductory knowledge of the methods of inquiry of the discipline, its theories and concepts, and the primary critical issues addressed by scholars in the field.

Proficiency in oral and written communication appropriate to the discipline and to the humanities in general.

Solid preparation for graduate work in this field or elsewhere in the humanities (or some social science disciplines), as well as for careers that build on the skills developed by this programme of study and by a liberal arts education in general.

A Self Reported Academic Record (SRAR). All applicants will be invited to complete this after submitting their application.

English language testing if you have not completed at least 3 years of study where English is the sole language of instruction at the time of application submission and English is not your first language.

Records of all college work that you have received academic credit for and does not appear on your high school transcript.

The Common Application Mid Year Report with updated academic record if mid-year grades are available. This should show your first semester senior year grades.
