Overview

Health and Physical Education Grades K-12 is offered by McNeese State University. Students in Physics Education program are provided with a broad education in science and mathematics and sound preparation for instructing physics, physical science, chemistry, math and other similar subjects.

Key Facts

Many of our courses involve collaborative group work and student-led presentations so students gain communication and interpersonal skills essential in any profession. During their last semester, students student teach grades 7-12 at an area school for at least 200 hours. The degree leads to initial teacher certification. Our program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Providers and approved by the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. For the past two years, McNeese grads have received the highest performance scores on COMPASS, a statewide teacher evaluation system, during their first 2 years of teaching. This top ranking is based on both supervisor evaluations and the academic growth of PK-12 students taught by our graduates. Our two-semester residency program provides students with experience in classroom observations, tutoring, instructing small and large groups and assisting teachers. Students also attend seminars and workshops where they examine and address educational issues and concerns.
