Overview
Students of German - Literature, Film, Culture develop fluency in another language as well as sensitivity to their own language and cultural heritage, to the contributions and diversity of other peoples, and to the advantages of an international perspective.
Brigham Young University students will:
- speak listen read and write German at the ACTFL Advanced Low level or higher.
- demonstrate a broad knowledge comprehension and appreciation of the culture literature linguistics and history of German-speaking countries.
- be offered a broad range of internship opportunities in Berlin and a few other locations.
- receive individual help to find and prepare for a work experience that will improve their German-language skills and provide a meaningful context for their academic studies.
Career
Experience with the intellectual, artistic, and spiritual expressions of other cultures and of their own culture helps students qualify for advanced study at graduate and professional schools, especially in linguistics, literature, language teaching methodology, library science, humanities, business, law, and medicine.
Those who accept employment on completion of the BA degree frequently serve in international business, in education, or in a government agency.

- Complete the following prerequisite courses: Germ 101, 102, 201, 202. Some or all may be waived based on placement exam.
- All secondary education and college work done outside of the United States (not U.S. accredited) must be evaluated by an international credential evaluation agency at the applicant’s expense.
- Reporting US High School Work – If you have attended any U.S. high schools, or U.S. accredited high schools, you will need to self-report this work on the application.
- Endorsements – An endorsement must be submitted from your ecclesiastical leaders on your behalf. If you are not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints you must be interviewed by either your own ecclesiastical leader or a Latter-day Saint bishop as well as the University Chaplain.
