Overview

Materials science is the study, discovery, design, and production of new materials of various compositions from the atomic to macro scale. Students will explore the mechanical, electronic, and biological properties of materials and experiment with the most exciting current designs and applications of modern materials.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Science in Materials Science at the University of Miami, students will be able to:

apply fundamental concepts in chemistry and physics for the design, development, and production of new materials.
apply standard laboratory techniques to characterize and synthesize materials.
critically analyze and characterize the properties and potential applications of materials.
communicate their results to relevant people, including decision-makers, stakeholders, managers, and the general public.

Complete and submit the Common Application. Upon submitting, you will be asked to pay a $70 nonrefundable application fee.
If you have attended a secondary school outside of the United States, you must submit your official secondary school documents (transcripts, mark sheets, certificates, examination results, etc.)
We require you to submit two letters of recommendation: one from a high school guidance counselor and one from a teacher.
The University of Miami is need-aware for first-year international undergraduate applicants. This means that, for a portion of international applicants, the Admission Committee will consider that student’s ability to pay tuition without the need for financial aid.
