Overview

The Individualized Integrated program from University of Minnesota serves new students who want to major in interdisciplinary areas for which majors are not available at UMD, current students who want to utilize existing UMD coursework to design their own interdisciplinary major, and transfer students from community colleges who wish to integrate previous coursework with coursework in CEHSP to design their own interdisciplinary major.

What you'll work on

Students will prepare a proposal for an Individualized Integrated Major Program (IIMP) under the guidance of a professional advisor in the CEHSP Advising and Academic Service Office and one or more faculty advisor. The professional advisor will help the student to clarify their intended goals and to assist the student in identifying an appropriate faculty advisor. Both the professional advisor and the faculty advisor will assist the student during the development of the proposal.

The proposal will include a plan of study that demonstrates the rationale for the outlined plan, describes the unity of the interdisciplinary areas to be studied and outlines the integrative capstone project to be undertaken as the culminating project for the program. The capstone project will be reflective of the interdisciplinary nature of the program and could take the form of a research project or an applied project. A student is accepted for admission to the IIMP after the proposal is reviewed and approved by the IIMP Committee.

Each capstone project will be reviewed by the IIMP committee (IIMP). This committee will be comprised of one faculty member from each collegiate department and the designated academic advisor(s) so as to ensure that the IIMP program maintains its integrity of being a collegiate program.
