Overview

This curriculum of the Intervention Specialist programe from Intervention Specialist at Bowling Green State University provides clinical and field-based hours where students receive first-hand experience working with children and adolescents with special needs.

Mild-moderate intervention specialist work with students with mild to moderate educational needs, generally identified as having learning disabilities, developmental disabilities or being at-risk for school failure. Moderate-intensive intervention specialist-work with students with moderate to intensive educational needs, generally identified as having severe behavior handicaps or multiple handicaps.

Career Prospects:

Internship opportunities working with students with disabilities include positions such as a coach, camp counselor, child care provider, or volunteer at a school or community agency.

With the shortage of qualified special education teachers, you will be marketable in public schools as a classroom teacher, tutor, resource room teacher and consulting teacher. You’ll also have opportunities outside the classroom in such places as mental health facilities, social service agencies, hospitals and juvenile detention centers.
