About the Program

You’ll learn about events of the past from ancient China to contemporary America, as well as the philosophical and practical problems of political organization, collective action, and governance in the modern world. The joint History and Political Science program of Rutgers University is an integrated program consisting of 45 credit hours from the combined disciplines. This program provides excellent preparation for many professional careers in a variety of fields, including business, government, law, education, finance, and international affairs. This program takes into consideration the specific needs of adult and nontraditional students and University College-New Brunswick endorses it as an adult-friendly & working-professional program.

Programme Structure

The History Component of the History/Political Science Joint Major will include the following courses:

At least one course in each of the three following areas: 1) United States History (512), 2) European History (510), 3) Global, African, Asian, Latin American, or Native American history (selected 506 and 508 courses).

At least one course in the history of some period prior to 1500 A.D. (pre-modern course- click here)

At least four* courses at the 300-400 level.
