Overview

The skills attained through this Data Analytics and Economics program from The City University of New York will prepare students for entry-level positions across a number of industries and occupations, including healthcare, finance, public policy, real estate, environmental analysis, digital media, research and development, behavioral science, marketing, outcomes research, and banking.

The program will also prepare students who choose to go on to graduate studies, e.g., MBA, MPH, etc. Based upon several recent studies and the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook, jobs in data analytics are in high demand and will continue to grow as the volume of data rapidly expands.

Key Features

The degree requires a total of 120 credits. Students must complete a total of 60 credits in General Education (GenEd) courses. To develop and sharpen one’s computational foundation, necessary for work in quantitative analysis, students are required to take core Mathematics and Computer Systems Technology (CST) courses as specified in the Degree Requirements.

Students will take BS major core courses including Applied Macroeconomics, Applied Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Intermediate Microeconomics, Econometrics, Visualizing and Mapping Economics Data, Behavioral Economics, and Statistical Learning in Social Sciences.

These courses will provide students with the skills needed to think critically and to understand and clearly communicate regarding the increasingly complex and advanced economic concepts and theory of real-world problems. Finally, the program requires students to participate in a semester long internship or to conduct a research project.

General requirements

Students applying for admission to the program must meet the college standards for admission into a baccalaureate program. Students who do not have the mathematics background required to enroll in MAT 1475 (Calculus I) but who otherwise meet the admission requirements can use the program elective credits to complete the pre-requisite Mathematics courses.

High school diploma with minium of 75 average or a minimum score of 650 on the GED/HSE exam. Older GED scores(minium 2700) are still valid.

Proficiency in English and Math: Students who have minimum scores of 480 (Verbal) / 530 (Math) in SAT; or 20 (English) / 21 (Math) in ACT; or 75 (English) / 80 (Math) in Regents will be proficient.
