Overview

The Teaching Mathematics students at the University of Minnesota expand their knowledge by taking a variety of mathematics courses. They look at mathematics from different perspectives and develop their teaching mathematics knowledge through coursework and classroom experiences.

Key Features

The secondary teacher education program (STEP) offers a variety of content areas for specialization. Classes will include a combination of specific content area and teacher education coursework.

Within the teacher education program, students will have hands-on exposure to classrooms through volunteer experiences, field apprenticeships, and student teaching.

Graduates will be eligible for MN licensure in Teaching Mathematics grades 5-12.

Focused coursework on teaching about and with American Indians, as well as the role of diversity in American education; candidates develop an understanding of working with all learners.

Known for preparing teachers who are technologically adept and skillful.

Program is relevant and current, faculty engage in best practices, professional collaborations, and research in education.

Field-based program with many weeks of opportunities to be immersed in multiple classrooms.
