Overview
Because industry has told us people in these jobs need a foundation in business classes and soft skills, as well as having computer skills, this major includes business, communications, and computer courses. People who can bridge the gap of being able to explain technology change to those who are not as technology knowledgeable are much sought after in the job market. To make CIS students even more marketable, these students are advised to take the additional courses needed to complete a Business and/or Communications minor, or possibly even a double major.
What You Will Learn
- The Computer Information Systems program at University of Dubuque helps students to build a strong foundation of computer information theory followed by technical skill development.
- Students gain an understanding of the role of information technology in businesses and other organizations and how to deploy information technology to increase efficiency, enhance effectiveness, and gain a competitive advantage.
Program of Study
The University of Dubuque Computer Information Systems program stresses theory and skill development in the technical areas of web development, networking, computer programming, operating systems, database management, systems analysis and design, and project management. Students take several CIS electives to develop strengths in their particular areas of interest.
