Overview
The Health Sciences program at Furman University flows from our Wellness Concepts course, a general education course that leads students to understand the consequences of lifestyle habits on their well-being. The course focuses on a study of wellness concepts—physical, social, mental, emotional, and spiritual—that include an examination of the fundamental knowledge of physical fitness, chronic diseases, nutrition, stress, substance use and abuse, and sexually transmitted diseases.
Our broad-based Health Sciences program includes a wide range of fitness facilities to enable you to apply real-world examples to everything you learn in the classroom. At the Furman Institute of Running and Scientific Training (FIRST), you can help faculty researchers make new discoveries to help runners and other athletes improve their performances. Whether you’re looking to become a medical doctor, physical therapist, strength coach, or nutritionist, you’ll get a solid, thorough grounding in Health Sciences at Furman.
