Fairmont State University Chemistry instructors focus on the fundamentals of modern chemistry. Our chemistry graduates are trained in the laboratory skills required of a practicing chemist. Chemistry graduates from Fairmont State University often choose to attend graduate school in chemistry, biochemistry or the pharmaceutical sciences, or work as technicians in the chemical industry.  The Chemistry program is also a great start for students who are interested in medical, dental, veterinary or physical therapy programs.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

    • Official English proficiency scores (TOEFL Internet Based of 61 or IELTS of 6.0) if your native language is not English.

    • Original or certified copies of all official academic records/transcripts. 
    • All undergraduate students who have attended high school, colleges or universities outside the United States will need to use World Education Services (WES) to complete the credential evaluation of all academic work completed. 
    • Proof of immunization (measles, mumps, rubella) 
    • Proof of health insurance
