Overview

The Department is a member of the University Aviation Association and is accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International.

In 2017, the Department of Professional Aviation integrated a new fleet of 12 Cessna Skyhawk and Piper Arrow aircraft. The Department conducts both ground, simulator, and flight training year-round. Flight operations are headquartered at the Ruston Regional Airport in the Louisiana Tech Flight Operations building. 

We have aviation management cooperative agreements with the Louisiana Airport Managers Association and many Fixed-Based Operators in the region. Our links with industry are accomplished by internship programs with numerous major air carriers, regional airlines, corporate aviation, and government organizations as well as maintaining close contacts with our graduates.

  • The mission of the Department of Professional Aviation is as follows: The Professional Aviation curriculum provides two accredited professional degree programs in Professional Aviation and Aviation Management. 
  • Professional Aviation and Aviation Management programs focus on setting a standard of excellence and to provide graduates with the knowledge, skills, experience, and attitudes necessary to shape and lead the aviation industry in the 21st century.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
