Louisiana Tech University was founded in 1894 as Louisiana Industrial Institute, by Act 68 of the General Assembly of Louisiana. The Honorable George M. Lomax, state representative from Lincoln Parish, introduced the legislation.

Louisiana Tech faculty and students participate in world-renowned research. Faculty and students perform interdisciplinary research that impacts the world on a daily basis. Our students and faculty are working to discover new particles, develop novel drug delivery systems, engineer tissue, monitor the environmental, innovate trenchless installation, inspection and remediation of underground utilities, perform ultra-sensitive medical imaging and developing life-saving biomedical technologies.

Louisiana Tech’s Department of Residential Life offers students a variety of housing options. Incoming freshmen have the option to reside in the residential suites, the traditional residence halls, Legacy Park apartments and selected apartment commons, which may change each year, within University Park and Park Place. Our returning students (anyone returning to live on campus after their first year) have the option to select from an available apartment within University Park and Park Place or an available space within our traditional residence halls.
Prescott Memorial Library exists to support the curricular, research, and service activities of Louisiana Tech University.
Prescott Library strives to provide this support to all constituents of the University.
Numerous computers are located on the main floor. These computers provide access to the Library’s website and some software programs.
One source of our University’s strength is its diversity. Contrasts create learning experiences beyond the classroom, and our students have the opportunity to engage in high-impact learning practices such as study abroad. Our students come to Ruston from 47 states and 64 foreign countries. Partnerships with large and small companies enrich students’ learning experiences and increase their chances of finding great jobs in Louisiana and beyond.
Louisiana Tech University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate, baccalaureate, masters, and doctorate degrees.
I had a really good time in Louisiana. I met great people, had a good education and amazing experiences that helped me grow. However, I did not like living in a small town so isolated from big cities
