If your aspirations span teaching and performance, consider combining the Bachelor of Music Education degree with a Performer’s Certificate in Instrumental, Keyboard, Jazz, or Vocal Performance, which can be completed in four years.

Mission

The mission of the Bachelor of Music degree program in Music Education at the Frost School of Music is to:

Help students develop the musical and teaching competencies necessary to enable them to demonstrate the generic and subject area competencies and the Florida Educational Accomplished Practices (FEAP) for becoming successful music teachers.

Enable students to apply the musical and instructional skills developed in the program (and reinforced during field experience and student teaching) to teach music in a wide array of contexts.

Help students to develop the skills and desire to continue music-making as a lifetime endeavor both personally and professionally.

Help students develop skills in integrating information from the diverse professional literature into their teaching.

Complete and submit the Common Application. Upon submitting, you will be asked to pay a $70 nonrefundable application fee.

If you have attended a secondary school outside of the United States, you must submit your official secondary school documents (transcripts, mark sheets, certificates, examination results, etc.)

We require you to submit two letters of recommendation: one from a high school guidance counselor and one from a teacher.

The University of Miami is need-aware for first-year international undergraduate applicants. This means that, for a portion of international applicants, the Admission Committee will consider that student’s ability to pay tuition without the need for financial aid.
