The department offers a 120-hour Bachelor of Science degree and a 45-hour Master of Health Informatics and Information Management at Louisiana Tech University. Both programs are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Health Informatics and Information Management (CAHIIM).

The mission of the Department is to provide a superior educational experience. We empower students to excel in the HIIM profession and to support the community and industry by striving for excellence in teaching, research, and service. Our graduates will be prepared to improve the delivery of health care by using technology to manage all aspects of health data collection, use, and dissemination.

Programme Structure

  • Having skilled HIM professionals on staff ensures an organization has the right information on hand when and where it is needed, while maintaining the highest standards of data integrity, confidentiality, and security.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and reimbursement requirements also make HIM professionals valuable for compliance with various governmental and non-governmental rules and regulations.  
  • Health information management (HIM) professionals work in a variety of different settings and job titles. They often serve in bridge roles, connecting clinical, operational, and administrative functions.

English Language Requirements

    The TOEFL iBT ® measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The test has four sections (reading, listening, speaking, and writing), each with a score range of 0-30, for a total score range of 0-120.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
