With this Music program at Alma College you have opportunities to perform on campus and to tour across Michigan, the United States and around the world. You can study with experienced professors who are professional performers and respected scholars.
Graduates holding the B.M. in Music Education fulfill their desire to teach in the public schools. Former students are currently teaching in programs at Charlevoix, Eaton Rapids, Gaddis, Grand Blanc, Grand Ledge, Grosse Ile, and Pau Pau, and in places as far flung as New York City, Alaska, and Bogotá, Columbia. For others who complete graduate study, opportunities in higher education become meaningful careers whether as teachers or administrators.
Regardless of degree, music students often pursue advanced study in subjects as varied as performance, composition, conducting, music ministry, music therapy, and sound design at universities in the United States and Canada. As professional musicians, they have performed in venues ranging from concert halls like Lincoln Center to cruise lines.
For many Alma students, music is only one of two majors they complete. Graduates continue to play and sing in their communities, even as they achieve successful careers in other areas, ranging from biology, business, entertainment media, law, mathematics, medicine, and psychology.
