Overview
The department is committed to preparing students to understand and critically analyze public health issues, to recognize the importance of health disparities, and to understand the local, national and global dimensions of public health issues. The department also fosters intellectual curiosity and creativity in problem solving to effectively address public health challenges in communities and populations, and aims to provide a foundation of core health knowledge enhanced by interdisciplinary study to promote health at all levels for all people.
The BS in Health Studies is a general programme that prepares students with the health knowledge and skills necessary to understand and navigate the U.S. healthcare system, to be an informed consumer of health information, and to critically assess personal health behavior, health status, and associated health risks. The health studies programme is ideal for those who want to learn more about health and wellness, but who do not wish to pursue preparation in a specific health profession such as public health, health education, or nursing.

General requirements
- Send your academic records from all high schools or secondary schools attended, including diplomas if you have completed high school or secondary school. If your documents are not in English, you must include a notarized English translation.
- Be sure to include any exam scores such as IB, AP, iGCSE/A-Levels, CSEC, WAEC, NECO or CAPE.
- The Office of International Admissions will perform a grade conversion evaluation of your foreign academic transcripts.
- International students must submit proof of English proficiency.
- Unless required by your major, personal statements are not required, but are accepted. If you wish to submit a resume/CV or list of extracurricular activities for review, you may do so after submitting your online application.
- Official SAT or ACT test scores are optional.
- For most academic majors a recommendation letter is not required but are accepted. You should submit a letter from a guidance counselor or a teacher.
