Overview
Graduates secure positions in policing, courts, and corrections. Many also use this degree as the starting point in their pursuit of a law degree. Finally, the Criminal Justice degree from Colorado Mesa University will assist students in their upward mobility in their area of employment.
All CMU baccalaureate graduates are expected to demonstrate proficiency in critical thinking, communication fluency, quantitative fluency, and specialized knowledge/applied learning. In addition to these campus-wide student learning outcomes, graduates of this major will be able to:
- Discuss the history and practice of each segment of the Criminal Justice System: police, courts, and corrections.
- Analyze ethical issues surrounding the practice of criminal justice in a diverse society.
- Use knowledge of the nature and causes of crimes, typologies, and theories of offenders and victims in critiquing current crime prevention policies.
- Practice quantitative and qualitative research methods including interpretation of statistical analyses.
- Demonstrate proficient oral communication and writing skills that are formal and professional in nature.
Mission
The Colorado Mesa University Career Services provides resources and guidance for students and alumni in their journey toward reaching their career goals. We take an active role in providing career exploration, workshops, events, and on-campus employer visits to encourage students to investigate and gain information while creating their career path. We also help employers make campus connections to build relationships toward meeting their recruitment needs and hiring goals.
