In addition to providing a rigorous curriculum which explores current theories in integrated marketing, advertising, corporate communications, public relations, and communications management, the Advertising and Public Relations program at The City University of New York is dedicated to delivering the sort of practical knowledge and hands-on experiences that students could only get by studying here in New York City, the communications capital of the world.

The program not only gives students access to global corporations, leading edge firms, and dynamic grass roots organizations, but to an engaged faculty that includes working professionals.

Since its beginning in 1984, the Ad/PR program has been the only undergraduate integrated marketing communications specialization in CUNY. With approximately 200 declared Ad/PR majors, the program remains true to its mission: to offer a competitive, professional communications education to students with diverse backgrounds, skills, and interests. We attract a growing number of students not only from New York, but from across the country and around the globe.

The Ad/PR Program is proudly committed to service learning and civic-minded projects, especially those that relate most directly to CCNY students and their communities. Such integrated learning gives students a greater sense of purpose, reinforcing that advertising and public relations can motivate positive social change.

General requirements

Students wishing to major in Ad/PR should complete the pre-requisite course, MCA 101 Introduction to Media Studies, with a B- or better prior to, or concurrently as they declare their major as Ad/PR.

Students must have completed at least 45 credits prior to entering the major.

The admissions review focuses on identifying your academic strengths as they relate to your intended major, and we will be looking for the following:

Overall academic average (GPA)

Performance in core academic subjects such as math, English and science.

SAT or ACT scores (if submitted)
